Sanchu Washi Japanese paper has a history that goes back more than 800 years in Hida Kawai-cho. What makes this paper so special is that the raw ingredients of the paper, the inner bark of mulberry, is bleached naturally by exposing it to snow. Unlike paper bleached with common chemicals, this paper is very strong due to the long, unbroken fibers of the mulberry pulp. When the paper is made it has a rustic unbleached color, but the more it is exposed to the sun it becomes more and more white. The raw materials, the mulberry and the hibiscus are all naturally produced in keeping with tradition.
