Traditional Kyoto thread boasting gold and silver sparkles and color for decorating fabrics and for embroidery.

These gold and silver threads are indispensable in creating the luxurious shining gold designs of traditional Japanese clothing such as kimono that are representative of Nishijin textiles, decorations on shrine mikoshi floats, and the decorative aprons of sumo wrestlers. It is made by thinly cutting the gold leaf or metal evaporated film and spirally wrapping it around a core yarn such as silk, polyester, or rayon.
